The vote must go on – even if no one has the key to open up a Cambridge polling station

Staff turning up early to open a polling station in Cambridge weren’t going to let the little matter of not getting into the building stop them – they hastily ‘converted’ their car into a make shift voting booth. Voters turning up at Milton Road library – where the votes are normally cast – were instead re directed to a car.

“For now, our polling staff are doing a great job ensuring early voters can still cast their vote,” Cambridge Electoral Services announced on X (formerly Twitter).

“Voters at Milton Road Library get to experience the rare sight of voting from the back of a car as we’ve had problems getting into the building … hopefully we’ll be in soon,”

An hour someone turned up with the key to the library.

“The polling stations at Milton Road Library are now up and running … well done and thank you to our polling teams who remained calm and carried on!,” added the electoral services team.

Elections are due to take place in Cambridge today for the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), as well as 14 of the 42 seats on Cambridge City Council.
