Peterborough house fire which killed two was ‘accidental’ say fire chiefs

A house fire in Peterborough that has now claimed a second death was an accident, an inquiry has determined.

A man was found dead at the house in Crabtree, Paston, Peterborough, on Monday following a major blaze.

Today it was revealed that a woman, also in the house, has died in hospital from her injuries.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said: “A thorough fire investigation, involving several officers and police investigators, has determined the cause of the fire was accidental.”

At 5.46am on Monday (19) crews were called to reports of a house fire on Crabtree, Paston.

Firefighters from Dogsthorpe, Stanground, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade and Thorney responded to the incident.

“They arrived to find a well-developed fire at a terraced house,” said the spokesperson.

“They rescued two people from the property and performed CPR alongside the ambulance service.

“Sadly, one man was declared dead at the scene and a woman was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.”

The spokesperson said: “The woman who was injured in the fire has sadly died in hospital.”
