Former Bank of England economist and Shadow Chancellor, Rachel Reeves MP, was in Peterborough at the weekend to kick off Labour’s spring campaigning efforts.

The city is one of Labour’s hopes for a gain at the General Election with the Conservatives sitting on one of the smallest majorities in the country.

The shadow chancellor said: “Labour will bring stability back to our economy so that never again can we play fast and loose with the public finances in the way that the Tories have done.

“The question people will ask themselves at the next election is pretty clear:  Are me and my family better off after 14 years of Conservative government?

“There’s a real sense, in a city like ours, that people are fed up with politics that don’t work. The message was clear that people want an end to the chaos and infighting in government.

“We have such talents and opportunities in the city, but they are being held back after 14 years of the Conservatives in government.”
