A brass lectern – presented to remember those who died in the Great War – has been stolen from a Cambridgeshire parish church.

The brass lectern has been stolen from Pidley Church Cambridgeshire.

All Saints church members believe it was stolen on Friday June 23 between noon and 6pm. Because of its weight they suspect two people must have moved it out of the church.

“Pidley is a small village, and this lectern was very special, we would like it back,” said a post on the village Facebook page.

“If you can help in any way – check your CCTV, let us know if you saw anything happening at the church, on the day or before if they had been ‘casing the joint’.”

The village has contacted other local villages and hope their appeal can be shared “to as many people as possible, in the hope it is returned.

“It is obviously from a church so anyone being offered it should be suspicious, let’s hope it is not melted down for scrap.”
