It may be every child’s Christmas wish, but a guide price of £1.5m – and the lack of any fire engines – will probably mean a former Cambridgeshire fire station won’t be a gift from Santa. Cheffins has put the old fire station at Huntingdon up for sale.

While the site does not currently have planning permission granted for conversion, architect Chaplin Farrant believes he has an answer having drawn up a proposal for the 1.6-acre site to accommodation 34 homes and flats.

The building was left vacant a year ago when Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue moved to a new station.

The large purpose-built fire station includes five bays, and this, as well as training buildings, a drill tower, smoke house, training accommodation, workshops, garaging, and private gardens all make up this large development site.

In addition, there are four semi-detached properties with spacious gardens, available as part of the sale.

Maxwell Fahie of Cheffins said: “Situated in a strategic location, within walking distance of the town centre and close to a number of amenities, this site has the potential to create a range of housing, in an area with a shortage of new stock.”

The site is available either as a whole or in two lots, with lot one comprising of the main fire station and associated buildings across 1.17 acres and lot two, the four semi-detached properties and private gardens at the Brow, extending to 0.45 acres.

The deadline for bids is the 1st of November 2023.
