She describes it as a “tot” but whatever measure she is using its led to a long and happy life for Florence Proctor as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Florence Mabel Proctor is better known simply as Mabs and clearly has found her move to Wisbech “for a quieter life” has worked wonders.

Among those calling by to congratulate her was the Mayor of Wisbech, Cllr Susan Wallwork.

Mabs says she moved to the town over 20 years ago from Tottenham for a quieter life.

“And boy it’s paid off,” says Wisbech Tweet who took the photos.

“Mabs looks amazing for her age and has a wonderful sense of humour.

“She told me secret to a long life is the tot of whisky after her evening meal – she said she now has enough to last quite a few years, so we expect to visit for many years to come.”

And besides the mayor, Mabs ensured her friend Ceri Mills, who pops in regularly to help her, was also among those invited to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Wisbech Tweet said: “Mabs was boss for the day and told the mayor she must parade up and down the street so that everyone could see her – so Susan did, meeting residents on the way.”

She added: “It was such a happy day. Mabs was so shocked when she saw the mayor, she didn’t know Ceri had been organizing behind the scenes.

“She was so honoured the mayor was there to see her, but I can assure you the mayor was even more honoured to be there.

“What a wonderful lady still making the best of herself each day doing her hair lovely and lippy the perfect colour – she really is one very special lady.”
