Former MP accepts life peerage from Boris

He is famously remembered for telling a constituent “please feel free to never bother me again” after an exchange of correspondence over same sex marriage – which he opposed.

But former MP Stewart Jackson is set for a return to mainstream politics with a seat in the House of Lords.

Mr Jackson has been awarded a life peerage after Prime Minister Liz Truss recommended him on a newly ennobled list drawn up by Boris Johnson and approved by the King.

He will be known as Baron Jackson of Peterborough.

The former MP became special adviser and chief of staff to Brexit Secretary David Davis after losing the Peterborough seat he had held for 12 years.
