A 13-year-old boy has some explaining to do after taking his family’s £35,000 Audi estate for a ‘test drive’ and crashing it into a garden wall.

Police arrested the youth after inspecting the damage to both the car and the wall in Crockfords Road, Newmarket, on Monday morning.

Teenage boy, 13, took this Audi from his home and crashed it into a garden wall in Crockfords Road, Newmarket, on Monday morning.

“The teenager was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence and insurance and failing to report a road traffic collision,” said a post on Police East Cambridgeshire Facebook page.

“He’s been bailed to return to the police station later in the year.”

A motoring expert told CambsNews he believes the car as is an Audi A4 or Audi A6 estate.

“One is slightly longer than the other,” explained our expert. “It is repairable, but I would predict an insurance write off”.

He believes the car could have been valued as high as £40,000.

The damage to the front end and to the “very expensive front LED headlights” make it a possible candidate for the scrap yard.

“Airbags deployed too, so more than likely a write off,” he added.
