Three men were arrested last night on suspicion of murder following the stabbing of a man in Cambridge earlier in the day. Police were called by the ambulance service at 5.19am yesterday with reports of a stabbing in Carlton Way.

The man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at 6.10am.

A post-mortem examination is yet to take place; however, police believe the man was stabbed in a targeted attack.

Three men aged 19, 20, and 23 were arrested last night.

They have all been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We continue to appeal to anyone with information to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information should report online (www.cambs.police.uk) or via the web chat service (https://www.cambs.police.uk/police-forces/cambridgeshire-constabulary/areas/services/web-chat/) and quote Operation Olwen.

Those without internet access should call 101.

Police say they are not in a position to name the deceased until formal identification has taken place.

Cambridge City councillor Alice Gilderdale, executive councillor for community safety, said: “This is incredibly sad news and my thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this time.

“We are in close contact with the police and are encouraging anyone who was in the Carlton Way area in the early hours of Sunday morning, or who has information that could support the investigation, to contact the police as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information should report online or via the webchat service and quote Operation Olwen. Those without internet access should call 101.”

She added: “Those living in and around Carlton Way who may be deeply shocked by what has happened are also in our thoughts.

“Anyone who has been impacted by the incident and would like support can contact the Victim and Witness Hub on 0800 781 6818 or online.

“Any council residents can also contact the council’s housing team for support on 01223 457000.”
