Police probe ‘racially aggravated harassment’
Police have identified a man suspected of racially abusing the Mayor of Wisbech, Cllr Sidney Imafidon. The incident happened on Friday in Norfolk Street, Wisbech, near to where Cllr Imafidon has one of his pubs, the Five Bells.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said today: “We were contacted at about 2.30pm on Friday (28 June) with reports of a man being verbally abusive in Norfolk Street, Wisbech.
“Officers attended, the man was identified and an investigation into racially aggravated harassment is ongoing.”
Cllr Imafidon represents Walsoken ward on the town council and is also a Fenland District Councillor for Walsoken and Waterlees ward.
Cllr Imafidon is well known in the town for having renovated, and now living in, historic Ely House in Lynn Road which had been derelict for many years.
He is also responsible for renovating and restoring the Duke’s Head, Wisbech, one of the town’s oldest pubs.
On his move to Wisbech he described being “drawn to this town. To its character and its spirit. Yes, like all places it has its flaws, but what a wonderful town it is.
“I want to give my energy and time to helping fix the flaws and keep it on the path to a bright future.”
