OPINION: An independent voice is desperately needed in NE Cambridgeshire

Cllr David Patrick is standing as an Independent candidate for NE Cambs

After some serious consideration I have decided to stand as an Independent for election as MP for North East Cambridgeshire. It really is time for change. If elected as an Independent I can make decisions that affect everyone and will ensure I vote in the House of Commons for what is in your interests rather than serving a political party and being whipped to vote the way they want.

Too many decisions have been made by our MP that have had a serious negative impact on people’s lives. Independents always put the interests of the electorate first as they will always directly answer to you.

ABOUT ME.

I am an independent town and Fenland District Councillor representing Wisbech, Walsoken and Waterlees and have been a councillor for 10 out of the last 14 years.

Married to Susan for 42 years we have four children and thirteen grandchildren.

I am Wisbech born and have spent most of my life in the Wisbech area and know NE Cambridgeshire well.

I work as a home to school taxi driver and in my previous employment I worked at Nestle Purina in Wisbech and as a skilled CNC setter operator in Kings Lynn.

I am also a volunteer at Walsoken Village Hall and have been instrumental in ensuring its success. I am an active committee member.

I have also been involved with WisWin from its inception. For those that don’t know that is the nonpolitical group that was formed to campaign against the proposed enormous incinerator down Algores Way, off Weasenham Lane, Wisbech.

Although the incinerator has won approval there is a window of opportunity to halt this monstrosity from being dumped on the town and an early priority, if elected, will be to work to stop this from ever being built here.

Conservatives failed to work with others to campaign against the incinerator, did little themselves and their intransigence and arrogance has allowed the Government to give consent for this monstrous incinerator to be built here.

But this election is more than about the issues facing Wisbech alone.

NE Cambridgeshire also embraces the towns of Whittlesey, March and Chatteris – not to mention dozens of villages – which have been neglected by the Conservatives.

Rural transport, housing, roads, and social deprivation are real issues across the constituency and yet years of Conservative government, both locally and nationally, have done little to improve these.

As an independent Member of Parliament, I will use my knowledge and experience to influence the Government to bring real change and real improvements to this area.

And if elected I pledge to ensure that any decision I make will always be in the interests of you, the electorate.
