Residents in a Cambridge street endured “misery and intimidation” from tenants at No 9, say police. Many were frightened to leave their homes for fear of abuse and violence. Cambridge Police hopes they have put a stop to it but gaining a closure order from the courts.

The order was issued to 9 Queens Meadow on Wednesday after a successful application from Cambridge City neighbourhood officers to Huntingdon magistrates’ court.

“The action came as a result of frequent reports of anti-social behaviour, noise complaints, anti-social driving and intimidation coming from the address,” said a police spokesperson. “A closure order was granted, and the property will be closed for three months.”

Sergeant Kevin Sutcliffe, from the Cambridge neighbourhood team, said: “Residents living in the surrounding streets of this property have endured no end of misery and intimidation with many frightened to leave their homes for fear of abuse and violence. We hope this closure order will provide residents with some respite and allow them and their families to be in their homes without feeling intimidated.”

The full closure order states the house be closed in accordance with the Anti-Social Behaviour and Policing Act 2014.  No one is permitted to enter except the emergency services until 19 December 2023.

“If anyone is found on the premises unlawfully, they render themselves liable for arrest,” said the police spokesperson.
