GALLERY: ‘Westminster Wives’ including Mrs Sunak fight to save Lucy Frazer
A formidable trio of political wives turned out to support Lucy Frazer.
Her 314,000 followers on Instagram know her as a “public figure, mother of two daughters and proud resident of 10 Downing Street” and of course Rishi Sunak’s wife but for one day only Akshata Murty became a political campaigner to support Lucy Frazer who is fighting to win her Ely and East Cambridgeshire seat.
It was a formidable trio of political wives who turned out in Fordham near Newmarket today to accompany Culture Secretary Ms Frazer.
Akshata took along Lucia Hunt, wife of the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, and Susie Cleverly, wife of the Home Secretary, James Cleverly.
“This is the first time the three women have campaigned together for a candidate,” said a Conservative Party spokesperson.
“They were joined by Conservative Party activists in Fordham, speaking to residents about the Lucy’s local plans, including the upgrading of the A10 and the Conservatives’ national plan to cut taxes for residents in Ely and East Cambridgeshire and across the country.”
Akshata Murty said: “It was great to visit Lucy in Ely & East Cambridgeshire, along with Lucia and Susie.
“Lucy has dedicated almost a decade to serving this community and I know she’s determined to keep delivering for the people of Ely & East Cambridgeshire, so it was a pleasure to show our support for a brilliant candidate.”
Ms Frazer, who coincidentally had introduced Rishi at a Tory rally in Cambridge on Monday, said: “It was such an honour to have the support of Akshata, Lucia, and Susie today who are all amazing women.
“I have seen first-hand the work that Akshata has done in No 10 supporting young people. I was thrilled that the three of them came to Ely and East Cambridgeshire to knock on doors and meet our local activists.
“The Conservatives have a great track record of delivery here – whether that’s the Ely bypass, the station in Soham or the expanded services at the Princess of Wales Hospital and it was good to discuss all these issues on the door steps today.”
