GALLERY: Optical phenomenon adds magical touch to early morning in Peterborough
Magical moments caught on camera
Peterborough probably didn’t realise it at the time but today saw a rather special optical phenomenon – a halo.
The technical details are that it arises from light and an interaction with ice crystals suspended in the air.
But at Peterborough Lido -where photographer Terry Harris – was a serene and spectacular moment.
Weather experts explain that the atmosphere does more than just produce our daily weather: from sunny to cloudy days, dry to wet, stormy to snowy. The atmosphere is also capable of producing colourful displays when conditions are right.
Some of these optical effects include halos, sun pillars, and sundogs.
And, in brief, that what we encountered in Peterborough today.
