5 flood warnings and 21 flood alerts as the heavens open on Cambridgeshire

Five flood warnings and 21 flood alerts are in operation across Cambridgeshire tonight as wet weather continues to cause disruption and havoc.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue urged to “make sure you are aware and prepared by signing up for flood warnings in your area https://orlo.uk/siFaL

“If you are out on the roads today, you’re likely to see some surface flooding.

“Be sure to check road conditions for where you’re driving to and keep your distance from the vehicle in front.

“Remember, drive to the conditions of the road, and slow down.

“If a road is closed because of flooding, take note of the signs. It’s closed for a reason.”

Their warning added: “It’s not worth the risk to drive through flood water. If you do get stuck, you’ll need to call your vehicle recovery company. The fire service will only respond if there is a risk to life – they won’t be rescuing your vehicle.

The Met Office says: “Rain continues to clear, leaving a drier night for many.”

It says that “drier conditions and lighter winds spreading to all areas through the evening as Friday’s rain continues to clear to the north. Occasional showers persisting overnight, however. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Saturday:

Remaining largely cloudy Saturday, with lighter winds for all and scattered heavy showers likely into the afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Drier and brighter conditions are likely Sunday and Monday, with cooler overnight temperatures. Turning more unsettled into Tuesday with stronger winds and outbreaks of rain likely.

Cllr Jan French of March said: “Flooding across March today has been horrendous; we have tried to get tankards out to help. If you have been affected, please let us know.”

She added: “Upwell Road residents do you have any issues.? We need to know due to planning appeal re 110 homes – this is urgent. We need your help to stop this development. Please send me photos of flooding.”

One March resident said: “I live in Barkers Lane and the flooding is horrendous; I’ve contacted Anglian Water and will send somebody by Sunday/

“I now have raw sewage coming out of my sink drain and flooding my garden.”
