You can run but you can’t hide – as our cameras followed athletes on a remarkable run through the 12-acre Skylark Maize Maze at Wimblington in Cambridgeshire which this year is dedicated to supporting Team GB at the Paris Olympics.

Not since former Prime Minister Theresa May once admitted in a memorable moment in an ITV interview in which she confessed that the naughtiest thing she ever did was running through fields of wheat when she was younger, has there been anything like it.

March Athletics and Fenland Running Club members showed how it can be done at Skylark, but most visitors will opt to walk the  3 kilometres of pathways in the Team GB themed Maize Maze, and then maybe complete the Olympic themed game and solve the maize maze challenge.

Skylark event manager Bart Woodbine said: “We’re so excited to be supporting Team GB during the 2024 Paris Olympics, we’re all big sports fans and this is a fitting tribute to all the hard work our Olympians will put in during their time in Paris this summer”

He added: “It took the events team a week of toiling in the fields to design and cut out the pathways in the maize field using a rotavator.

“The paths are carefully cut out using GPS technology to plot the image to create a maze for visitors to explore throughout the summer, think of it as a dot to dot, but on a 12-acre field.”

Runners from March Athletics Club, Fenland Running Club and Sublime Timing have already tested the maze as details of The Skylark Run were unveiled.

Over a million plants are sown into the 12 acre field, making it one of the largest maize mazes in the UK with over 20,000 visitors every year for the last 15 years.
